Designed for a writer that works frequently in Los Angeles, but desires a more remote residence, this one bedroom, one bathroom ground-up hillside residence is governed by an efficient footprint and maximized views. To reduce the number of required pylons, the split level structure fits within a 30' x 33' bounding box. The compact floor plan is designed to feel larger and more private than its reality, with emphasis on the separation of space in section as well as plan.

The design utilizes a minimal, natural material palette and integrates visualization of several build-in furniture pieces. Multiple room-sized decks on the exterior of the structure expand the interior space and provide views of he surrounding forest. Additional loft spaces on the interior create deck-like perches to accommodate extra overnight guests or a writing desk.
