Proposed as an efficient solution for a young family in need of increased floor area, this rear-yard addition adds a bedroom, a dining room and a flexible gym/den space to an existing one-story house. Working within side and rear-yard setbacks, the addition’s identity is primarily shaped by its stepped roofline, a new elevation visible only from the back yard. At the interior, the dining room’s generous ceiling height and clerestory windows allow it to act as a natural light lantern for the living space. New custom millwork provides built-in storage in both the dining room and gym.
