A casual conversation in 2021 led to this collaboration among Ontario clients Ron and Kim, Victoria designer Leigh Mayoh, and Nelson, BC's Ruby Mountain Builders Inc. We poured the foundation walls about a week before Christmas, and began framing in January. Frequent, early-season snowstorms and wind-chills as low as -20C gave way to an early summer. Through it all, the clients were patient, reasonable, and appreciative; their enthusiasm made it a pleasure for us to go to work. Ruby Mountain Builders achieved Step 4 of the BC Energy Step Code, surpassing the proposed Step 3. The home uses 40% less energy than a typical new build. Designer Leigh provided excellent support throughout, and we are proud to present his handsome work here.
