New Classic

This client desired an update for her beautiful french tudor home in Newport Beach. The home had dark cabinetry and floors and small passageways that limited the natural light. To combat this, we reconfigured some walls to open up the entryways and added woodwork to mimic the woodwork already in the home. We decided to bleach the existing hardwood floors instead of replacing them. This saved us the hassle and expense of new floors while at the same time achieving the fresh and lighter look we were after. In the kitchen, we replaced all cabinetry with lighter and more efficient storage, including a custom designed bar hutch for glasses and other bar-wares. This client is an avid cook so every inch of the kitchen was designed with that in mind. Two dishwashers, a large refrigerator, a prep sink and an appliance garage were just some of the features we included in the kitchen design. The grey concrete tile in this kitchen made the space feel uniquely charming. We designed a custom kitchen nook area where we added a built-in banquette seating, a storage hutch for table settings, and a custom barn door. We found vintage windsor chairs that we then painted in a bright and fun berry color and balanced the room with colorful pillows on the banquette seating. In the family room we designed a custom wood paneled wall that surrounded the fireplace. This added height and became an interesting focal point of the room. We were able to embrace this client's love for bright bold colors in all rooms, especially in the powder room. In this room we added a bold and colorful wallpaper and paired it with a smaller scaled wallpaper on the ceiling. We repurposed several of the client's art and accessories and added a few new pieces to complete this version of what we call "New Classic."
