Northwood

Northwood was a very exciting project for us. One of the big challenges was the deck and the tree in the front. It is a heritage tree, so there are very specific restrictions on how deep the deck posts can go into the ground. This is a perfect example of how building constraint can make for thoughtful and creative design.

One thing that the client requested was more parking that did not feel like an out of place driveway. The linear element on the left of the sidewalk carries through to make a perimeter for the tree, which became the focal point.

The contrast of colors, textures and materials gives this landscape depth and turns what could have been just a simple design into a simply beautiful design.

The deck was initial the challenge of the project. We needed to have supports that did not interfere with the heritage tree's root system. A cantilevered deck was the solution.
