I reduced the visual scale of the existing fireplace bumpout by adding the columns on the sides that framed the highly textured tiles. The simple mantle connects the columns and mimics the simplicity of the open shelves on each side. Sconces on the columns added needed light and visual texture and depth while replacing the single can light above. Traditionally-style raised panel cabinet doors were selected to tie in with the home's existing kitchen cabinetry that was visible from this space.
