The goal of this project was to update a poorly functioning kitchen and to open up the wall to the great room allowing for more light and a greater sense of openess. During a previous remodel, the contractor had dropped the ceiling to eliminate the space that would have been above the 30" upper cabinets, and then created a hex shaped coffered ceiling. Unfortunately this created a somewhat clastrophobic feeling.

In the final plan, the owners opted to opened up the ceiling to standard height and added a skylight, but nixed the garden window to go with a standard picture window with casements instead.

Because the owners were accustomed to the layout with the stove near the dining area, we broke a few of the standard rules for kitchen design by having the refrigerator cutting into the work space, and away from the dining area. The client also preferred the refrigerator to open towards the bar instead of the sink. It all works for them, and ultimately, that's what really counts. The are very pleased with the layout of their kitchen.

Cabinets are by Canyon Creek Cabinetry. Included new appliances, plumbing, countertops, and pass through bar. Also, included was a new slider in the dining area.
