With property comes responsibility - With historic property comes monumental responsibility: Preserving and amending an Historic Estate for contemporary life, and its ongoing stewardship, was the task at hand for this particular project. The result is a site and period juxtaposition.

On the Northwest corner overlooking the Long Island Sound and (100) steps away from main house, rests an existing inground pool. For better access and functionality the owners imagined a pool house to accommodate their growing family’s demand for fresh air and exercise. On the East, OUTbuilding nestles into the rising terrain and sheltering trees, while on the West, rises and opens to the inground pool. OUTbuilding houses a changing room, restroom, kitchen, utility space, and dining patio and deck.

The steel superstructure permits the openness and airiness you’d expect from a seasonal-use building while taking the long-view by preparing for increasingly more forceful Atlantic winds. While weather permits throughout the season, OUTbuilding can be opened to the patio - The shade sail canopy protects the exterior patio and interior kitchen from summer’s afternoon sun.
