Pacific Beach House
The original residence was a single story home with a second floor stack over the garage. The homeowner wanted a "Spanish" style design, but I convinced her to let me work up a modern/transitional design and if she didn't like it, well, I would redesign it! We raised the ceiling of the main room to 11 feet tall to help off-set the existing stack, added tall glass sliders that open from the corner to give the indoor/outdoor feel to the pool, redesigned the bathrooms, and added a modern interpretation of "porch" and opened up all front rooms to the bay by moving the windows from the center to the corners of each room. Thank goodness she loved it!
I love the Spanish style, have designed many, but the cost of doing it correctly and making it look authentic is usually a budget buster, and this transitional look suited the bones of the house and will hopefully pass the test of time. Interior pictures soon to follow!
