Park Ave
The attic in this 1 1/2 story Tudor home had never been finished but the homeowners saw the potential in this dark and dusty space. Wanting to create a master suite, we discussed the best way to incorporate a bedroom, bathroom, seating area and storage. One thing the homeowners were adamant about was maintaining the angles in the space which led us to utilize spray foam insulation to preserve the headroom and create an energy efficient space.
After a few layout revisions we landed on the concept of a ‘door-less’ space which meant incorporating a non-traditional shower. In order to maintain privacy but not block the light, we created a descending arc which also helped soften the 6′ diameter shower’s presence within the space. The shower shape led to some interesting tile work; utilizing three colors of penny round tile we created a custom pattern that was both classic and modern.
Along with heated floors, a custom, enameled, claw-foot tub was another item on the homeowner’s wish list. Its dark body with white rounded lip was echoed in the shower tile colors and placement.
The colorful mirror was designed to fit the space given the sloped ceilings which made standard sized mirrors difficult to place and best use the entire space above the sink.
Classic, yet quirky. Fabulous and fun. This bathroom is a testament to teamwork, vision and the willingness to step outside the box.
