Pine Ridge Retreat
Pine Ridge Retreat is a small cabin on a spectacular wooded site in western New Hampshire. The project takes advantage of sweeping views via a large glazed central space. Inside this single room, a highly finished wood and stone cube contains storage, a master bedroom, full bath, kitchen, and media center. A single shed roof angles upward, maximizing views beyond and resting in juxtaposition on top of a more solid board-formed concrete mass. The master bedroom is set adjacent to a flowerbed just beyond the glass wall, and light traces its way through the space from morning to evening, like a sundial.
On approaching the project from the site entry, the concrete wall and a gently sloping roofline are visible, mediated by a cypress levolux louver system that provides intermediate transparency to the project in selected areas. Two galvanized steel walkways extend out toward the view like diving boards.
