Posh Westlake Bachelor's Pad
This once dark and monochromatic home located in the Vaquero residences is now light and colorful after giving it a much needed facelift. Our client contacted us to freshen it up and to help him reflect more of his personal taste. The kitchen was once adorned with dark wood stained cabinets, a very busy tiled backsplash, and an outdated metal vent hood. Now, it's vibrant with white simple shaker cabinets and glass uppers that allow for accent lighting. Also, we commissioned Vetro Glass Studio in Grapevine to create these one of a kind pendants that bring all of the accent colors in this open floor plan together. They now draw attention to the custom ceiling panel above that was once overlooked because of the dark surroundings. The back splash was replaced with a cream ceramic subway tile and an accent mosaic over the cooktop. For a small but big change, we painted the walls and ceiling lighter to create the perfect backdrop to all of the new and interesting details in the space.
The breakfast area focal point is seen from the front door and is captured by a beautiful slab of quartzite hung on the wall as art. The sideboard underneath the slab is intricately designed with inlaid mother of pearl and, when opened, lights up to highlight bottles inside. We used the existing table and moved the neutral upholstered chairs from the dining area. The previously built-in bench area used for reading, is now finished off with custom cushions and large throw pillows for a comfortable rest area.
The dining area is now complete with colorful dining chairs that transition nicely into the large living area. Because our client loved pattern, we decided to use chairs that had a fun but unusual circle pattern on the back panel and play up the color with a fun striped fabric. The table is adorned with a silk floral arrangement and bright green circle hurricanes.
The living room fireplace was once completely tiled and the surround took away from the beautiful mosaic on the facade. We covered the checkered tile (so as to not disturb the mosaic) with a simple stone. Now, the beauty of the mosaic shines through. We also replaced repetitive throw pillows with more of a variety of colorful pillows in several patterns for a more Moroccan feel. We chose to reupholster the large square ottoman with faux leathers for durability and aesthetics, while leaving the dark blue shag rug for an added texture. The media console and TV frame were an original design we came up with while working with local workroom Paloma Creations. It was carefully designed to house all of his equipment that not only runs the television, but the whole house! The frame is faced with a gorgeous aqua grasscloth while the furniture is lacquered in a creamy white.
This forever traveling client can now rest easy when he comes home to this relaxing space!
