Potomac Kitchen

This kitchen was done in Potomac, MD. For the island, the customer used Valley Gold Vein marble, quarried in Colorado, to go along with Alberene Soapstone, quarried in Virginia, on the perimeter. White marble paired with soapstone is one of my favorite combinations. The dark perimeter really causes the island to "pop", and because they are both soft materials they will patina together over time.

The overhand at the end of the island allows for a cozy eating area with barstools.

The chocolate cabinets with the white marble top have a great contrast with the soft white cabinets topped by the soapstone on the perimeter.

The Valley Gold Vein island has been mitered to give the look of a 5CM thick island, but the actual slabs were only 3CM thick.

The island has been bookmatched, which means that 2 slabs were seemed together to create a butterfly pattern on the island. This also allows you to have an island that is much longer than one individual slab will allow.

The Alberene Soapstone perimeter has been paired with a soft white cabinet. The knobs on the drawers are a nice copper that matches the rustic style of the rest of the kitchen.

The marble island is the focal point of the kitchen, but the oversized range and hood add a nice accent. The pot rack over the island also helps center everything and bring the kitchen together.

The fruit, flowers and cutting board on the marble show you that this kitchen is definitely used. In fact these photos were taken after a year of use.
