Urban 5 Star Rated Empty Nester
The Goal: Build an extremely energy efficient home.
The Process: Soledad worked closely with project architect Stephen Zagorski to develop a building envelope that would not only meet the 5 star goal, but outperform even the homeowner’s expectations. The resulting 5 Star rated home utilizes passive design in window placement, oversized soffits and a west facing screened porch. The home’s systems include a 19 SEER zoned, variable speed heat pump HVAC and solar-thermal water heating system. Other highlights include a standing seam metal roof with air gap to prevent heat transfer, sealed attic and rainwater collection system.
The Result: The Pressler residence not only received an Austin Energy Green Building 5-star-rating, but it received the highest points ever received in the 8.0 program and was selected as a 2009 case study for the City of Austin Green Building Program.
Accolades: The home was selected for the 2009 Cool Home Tour.
