Prospect St. Kitchen

The clients are a family of four in San Carlos, CA with two teenage boys and a great outdoor entertaining space. With the boys going off to college in a couple of years, the clients didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg doing a complete gut and re-do, and their appliances are still in good working order. That said, the kitchen was really dated and gloomy and they knew they needed a change. So instead, Sabrina Alfin Interiors achieved a refresh by upping the functionality for indoor/outdoor entertaining. We put in a large, sliding glass window that faces the backyard so food and drink could easily be passed through without having to go through the living room to access the backyard, and a handy countertop bar was added to the exterior wall facing the window. (Sadly, we don’t have a photo of the outside looking in—it was a rainy day when we took the pictures.) Additionally, we refaced the cabinets and painted them with a two-tone look: white uppers and a gorgeous teal blue for the lowers. The granite countertops stayed in place, however we replaced the dark granite backsplash with refreshing white subway tile with a frosty white mosaic glass border. Add recessed lighting, gorgeous new vintage-style glass pendants, a new custom-upholstered bench cushion to add more color, and viola! The look of a brand new kitchen at about a third of the expense!
