Loving the role art Deco style played out in San Francisco history, he wanted us to create an atmosphere that was at once current in its architectural setting, while nodding to the art deco style that still endures in the cities foggy hills, trolley cars, and streets Dashiell Hammett made famous by name.
Furnishings of zebrawood and leather, paneling and casework reminiscent of deco and even earlier architectural detailing, color in tones of ash brown and charcoal grey, highlighted chrome and mirrored glass, reflect a man’s urban retreat with a nod to the kind of glamorous setting stylish woman peruse to this day. A detailed fabric shade, discretely replicating floor to ceiling drapes and silvered sheers, sits between casework, then rises like a theatre curtain to reveal wide screen television entertainment. Tall, stylized, tree form lamps line a bar that spans the length of the room with tobacco colored inlayed wood barstools. It’s all meant to be dramatic, moody both day and night. And fun.
By contrast, the bedroom is inherently dark. With ebonized floors, chrome accents with a hint of warm mahogany. A classic leather chaise. A zebra wood bar, a partners desk beside floor to ceiling glass overlooking the bay. A classic recipe for moody intellect. And seduction.
