Restoring Grace

We were lucky this year to be able to purchase an old country house on a dirt road in the wilds of New Hampshire. It had survived three previous additions and felt disjointed and in need of some fresh ideas. We worked to restore a both sense of coziness as well as an openness to the out of doors.

In this after picture you can see the new shiplap wall surrounding the refaced fireplace. The floors were refinished in a darker color and the walls were painted "Apricot Ice" by Benjamin Moore to add a subtle warm glow.

This after picture of the living room showcases a working newly re-faced fireplace using local river stone. The walls are rough side out stained ship lap. We used lots of ethnic accessories in pillows, valences, ottomans and rugs to lend a casual and comfy feeling to this cozy room.

This screened in porch was our new addition to the house. The porch swing was custom made to insure that it was long enough to nap in. Floor and ceiling are made of Fir while the walls are pine.

This dining table was a free find left on the street with only three legs - but two leaves! It was rescued, suited up with four new legs, stripped and refinished with several layers of polyurethane to withstand the weather. Weather permitting this room is the favorite hang out spot!

This "Great Room" was created by removing walls between the kitchen, bedroom and hallway. New windows and a french door connect it to the new screened in porch. The color scheme for this large space was to be a dreamy, lake inspired blue and white. Once most things were installed it was clear...

This bathroom combined two very different spaces. The entry to the home which had no walkway and was never used was combined with a laundry room to create a new bath closer to the new 1st floor bedroom.

This large bedroom needed several rugs to help it feel cozy. The vintage fabric used for the valences had been stored in my fabric closet for years just waiting for the perfect place to live! The fresh white chenille comforter balances the bohemian style textiles.

This large bedroom had a perfect nook for working as well as relaxing. The old fashioned easy chair was a perfect spot to curl up with a book. The simple table/ desk hosted many a zoom meeting this year.

A little country style pizzaz was added to the new laundry room with a dark blue-gray paint (Black Pepper by Benjamin Moore) and birch tree stenciling.
