Rock Rich Garden

Conceived on graph paper from an expansive field, a wooded area, stream and pond behind, Rock Rich Garden was created on a six acre lot by the homeowners over many years. Materials to build the walls, labyrinth, star garden and bridge were all found on the property- remnants of the ubiquitous stone boundary walls built by New England farmers as they cleared the land. The spring-fed pond and stream are used for irrigation. Plantings include many beautiful specimen trees- fruiting, espaliered, evergreen and weeping ornamentals, many climbing plants (35 varieties of clematis alone) perennial beds and borders, roses, small fruits and vegetable beds. The woodland garden features a stone labyrinth, and the cross-shaped formal garden has a fountain at its center. Among the plantings are many pieces of art and statuary, both large statement pieces and small hidden surprises.
