Roslin Pavilion

A backyard dining room for a family who loves to live outdoors. The building is nestled into a heavily treed backyard, with shallow foundations designed to minimize disruption to the many root systems. Eastern White Cedar forms all the framing and siding, and a green roof caps it all off. The roof cantilevers over an extended concrete floor to allow for sheltered outdoor cooking.

A backyard 3 season pavilion for a family that loves to live and dine outdoors. This structure incorporates a sheltered area for barbecuing, and indoor area large enough for dining or just sitting with a book, and a small storage shed. All this is covered by a mono sloping green roof.

Keen to preserve the mature Japanese maple seen here as a key feature to the pavilion and the back yard, the foundations are designed to minimize disturbance to the root ball of the tree. All the siding and framing is locally (South Western Ontario) sourced Eastern White Cedar.

The roof edge seen here is a hybrid of off the shelf and purpose built components which provide the structure and growth medium for the green roof (still not established in these photos).

Eastern white cedar (locally sourced) is used for all the framing and siding. Leaving the structure exposed on the interior like this requires a level of workmanship and attention to detail which is much more difficult to achieve than when all framing is concealed behind drywall. Attention to...
