Rustic Modern Acreage

My client’s move to an acreage prompted a desire for a space that felt as calm and serene on the inside as the phenomenal view outside. We focused on bridging pieces more formal pieces from the past with softer, more casual pieces better geared to life on an acreage. To imbue the space with warmth, we added many treasured elements from the owner’s home country. The updated space feels easy, tranquil, and ready for its new life as a retreat space.

The home owner's furniture, purchased for a previous home, felt heavy and dark in the space. The addition of a bright Persian rug, a modern coffee table, and light pillows softened the feel in the space and allowed the furniture to look appropriate for the home.

In order to modernize the space, we striped the carpet and added hickory floors. To enhance the view, we darkened the wall color (SW Foggy Day) which took our view straight out the window.

The owner's favorite hobby is reading. In addition to several reading nooks, the large lower level room just begged to become a library. Complete with photographs of past travels and memorabilia from home, the library is a picture of warmth.

A large coffee machine overwhelmed the kitchen counter. An avid cook, counter space was precious. By adding a wood cabinet to the end of the kitchen we were able to create a proper coffee machine home, enhance the softer look of the space, and free up counter space.

The owner's comfy furniture and the warmth of the books makes the library an easy meeting space.

The owner, a photographer, selected her favorite travel photos for use throughout the home. Floating shelves on either side of the fireplace display these travel photos (Amsterdam here) along with pieces brought from her home country of Romania.

A nook in the living room provides a great spot for viewing the surrounding wetlands, the owner's free-range livestock, and the open sky.

We situated the home office to allow for daydreaming while staring out into the fields. Long rust drapes accentuate the window and create a a little drama in the room.

These rough stone vessel sinks with polished bowls created our starting point for the bathroom renovation, perfectly portraying rustic modern.

The Master bedroom renovation began by adding a window to better appreciate the views, and painting the walls out in a deep muted green to draw you eye straight to the view.
