Salvaged White Oak and Locust Deck
Greenbuilding often involves complex problem solving, but sometimes it's very simple -- in this case we simply take natural materials left for trash and turn them into something absolutely stunning.
Both the meditation platform and the deck were salvaged from magnificent white oak trees, one which blew down in a storm and one on a Baltimore City street we could not prevent being cut. So, we requested the logs be delivered to us and for a small fee, the tree company agreed. Savalged wood is a great way to reduce costs, and be less wasteful when gathering materials for your project. Wouldn't it be nice to pay only the labor costs and to know your project did not cause harm?
Native Locust, White Oak, and Osage Orange all do not require chemical treatment to last out of doors, which is why farmers often make fence posts with locust. These sturdy logs can stay in the ground without rotting. So, sometimes it is just simply more practical to go green!
