San Antonio River House

A long-time King William District couple commissioned this house with the goals of capitalizing on its location, blending into the historic setting, and providing a home for raising their new baby. Fronting the river, the entry doubles as outdoor entertaining space while intimate garden spaces have been carved out of the side yard. The terrace and second level porch take their aesthetic cues from neighbors, as does the masonry, triple-hung windows and metal roof. Internally, the slim house is predominantly single-loaded, allowing for long vistas throughout the structure and graceful circulation routes. The selection of local materials, products and artisan fabrications roots the house in its setting and adds to its sustainability. The result is a sense of being at the core of the city as well as within a relaxing oasis.
