Sarah Newhall and David Pyle
Our neighbors across the street from where we live, Sarah and David,
wanted their home remodeled before moving in and hired me as their
architect. I was asked to transform those parts of the house that did not
work for them and to create special places to display the fascinating
collection of artwork and artifacts from around the globe where they met.
Among the most important challenges and significant changes made to the
house included switching locations of the Kitchen and Dining Room to
capture more early morning East light; blending in the new construction
surfaces with the existing, heavily rippled plasterwork; and reworking the
upper level layout to simplify and optimize usable floor area.
Sarah and David have been generous with their praise and appreciation for
the results of our collective labor and the design solutions we implemented
that helped make their uniquely designed, split level home so comfortable,
artful and welcoming.
