This client was renovating her kitchen and wanted a backsplash that was unique but also timeless. She had a beautiful light island counter top and a bold counter top for the perimeter. We needed a backsplash to coordinate both, but also wanted to keep it clean. Any marble looks we put up almost fought with the island, so we decided something simple was the best option. This was actually one of the first options the client chose and kept coming back to, and it turned out great. The larger subway size gives it a more modern feel, but the dark grout adds a little more personality and emphasizes the chipped, rough edges - like that of real brick. The matte finish isn't something you see everyday, but it filled up the space nicely.
