BEFORE: As kids are getting older, adults decided they wanted to maximize their limited outdoor space to allow for a patio entertaining/dining area. One challenge was figuring out how to create new levels from so much slope, and how to transition from one level to another.

After: The sloping side yard is retained on the lower side, allowing a new level patio area for seating. Two steps up to the rear of the side yard leads to a new fire pit seating area. Steps to the side yard were added onto an existing deck, with horizontal wood paneling to cover the under deck...

New patio is made of Columbia Slate pavers laid on an angle. There is now enough room for a large dining table and chairs to seat the extended family. Corner planter holds a Japanese Maple for beauty and shade in the years to come.

AFTER: New stairs and railings were carefully matched to existing deck so transition was seamless. Side steps allow better flow from inside the house to the patio and fire pit areas.
