This is a great example of what should have been done originally. Building a deck so close to the ground is usually unnecessary. Why not get to the ground and have a surface that will last a lifetime? By getting to the ground you are also not elevated and "on show" to your neighbors as much. This of course also allows a smoother connection to the rest of your outdoor room.
