Structural Glass
Structural glass varies in the type of make up of the glass. It is designed to be load baring and capable of carrying snow loads and weight of a person (i.e. "walkable glass"). ATM Mirror and Glass has provided structural glass for a wide range of applications ranging from skylites, glass awnings, glass stair treads and glass flooring.
Due to the unique requirements of structural glass- and it's potential to be dangerous if not properly engineered, it is imperative corners are not cut with this type of product and only a skilled architectural glass construction firm is employed.
ATM Mirror and Glass has re-glazed, removed and otherwise corrected faulty installations which had been installed without any special consideration to the application. Often we find that the set is not installed into structural steel or glass has not been fabricated meeting guidelines of structural glazing requirements (such as using standard glass lamination versus load baring lamination). ATM Mirror and Glass only uses SentryGlass Lamination for all load baring applications such as stairs and floors. Another common error we find is that walkable glass is not fabricated with an anti-slip ceramic frit. Please be sure you check with your local building codes for your jurisdiction's specific requirements.
