This stunning kitchen remodel in Henrico, Virginia is a showstopper! This renovation includes many of today’s best kitchen design trends, including navy kitchen cabinets, open kitchen shelving, and mixed metals.

To make the kitchen larger and more light-filled, we removed the wall from the kitchen to the living room, then laid down entirely new flooring from Chris Davis Floors. Opening up the space and making it safer for the entire family was very important to the homeowner. Then, all new kitchen cabinets were installed. Procured from ProSource Richmond, the cabinetry is a classic white color mixed with a trendy navy blue on the island. This created the two-toned effect that the client wanted, but also allows for changes in the future to happen more easily (i.e. just the island could be repainted in the future if so desired).

The homeowner wanted the island to not only be unique in color, but also utilitarian in nature – it has a cooktop, storage, and plenty of seating and eating options for the family’s children.

Along with the standard updates to kitchen appliances, the homeowners were also interested and open to the idea of mixing metals and styles of hardware throughout the kitchen. Drawer handles and cabinet doors showcase champagne gold hardware, while the sink is a traditional chrome and the appliances are stainless steel. As a rule of thumb, mixing textures, colors, metals or materials calls for the usage of at least two of everything. By mixing gold, chrome, and stainless steel, our client deftly did this with great success and incredible aesthetic taste.
