An Elegant, Yet Functional Kitchen

A professional couple recently purchased an older home whose style did not conform to their more sophisticated taste. They wanted to remodel their kitchen to not only suit their more elegant style, but also to make it more functional and convenient. An oddly-shaped angular island sat in the middle of their kitchen, and as a result of its irregular structure, the island lacked storage space and made it difficult for the homeowners to work around. The stovetop area was also very cramped due to the fact that it was situated near the left corner of the back wall, leaving very little room to work, and the adjacent refrigerator consumed much of the area, resulting in a lack of countertop space near the cooking range. The kitchen also housed an outdated desk area, which was trendy during the time the house was built but was currently wasting usable space. In addition, the homeowners disliked the asymmetrical look of their kitchen and preferred one that was more balanced with clean lines. In short, the homeowners wanted a kitchen that combined elegance with functionality.
