Perched on the 17th floor of a high rise tower on the top of Russian Hill, the redesigned condominium is meant to invoke the feeling of floating above the city and water through a controlled use of material, view, and light. In order to maximize sight-lines and the experience of the changing light beyond, the spaces are divided through the use of a grounded series of minimal wood paneled objects, each with a unique function. While spatial connectivity was essential, the ability to transform the space was critical to the function of the home, and is achieved through the use of elements that could slide, fold, and even change transparency. The result is a space that provides a quiet and elegant backdrop to spectacular ever-changing views and a calm center for urban living.
