The curved bulkhead basement
One issue we contractors have is hiding ductwork and I-beams in basements. They are always the ugliest part of the basement, making the designers wanting to take your eyes away from them. We thought: why not turn the bad into the good? Make the bulkheads the focal points of the room. With this in mind, we took ever vertical right angle and made it a 90 degree curve. The end result is quite impressive!
The flooring is laminate with a wood grain: iot makes the floor less slippery, and matches the modern Farm style look the customer was wanting.
Instead of boxing in pipes along the walls, we decided to turn them into small closets where the customer could keep things like board games, and toys. With this in mind, we made a play area for the 2 kids and surprised them with their own chalkboards from Chalkboard Chique https://www.chalkboardchique.com/
All trim is finger-joint SPF from Classic Wood Mouldings in Ottawa
Reactions from the clients:
"I couldn't have imagined it looking as nice as this"
"It doesn't feel like you're in a basement"
"This looks like it was done on the Love It Or List It TV show".
