The Mule House

Located in Georgetown, NW, DC

The Mule House has been a historic mainstay in the Washington, D.C., area since in the mid-1800s. Georgetown houses typically follow a certain aesthetic: classic, charming, and full of luxe details. But this gutted and renovated 1860 stone house on the side of the C&O Canal utterly defies that expectation. With exposed stone walls, an open floor plan, modern finishes, and that Quaker-contemporary kitchen, it’s far from cookie cutter.

We started this amazing project last summer when approached by Mule House LLC. The owner wanted the existing structure gutted and completely renovated. That included a tear down of the dilapidated addition on the back of the house and the addition of a new, two-story addition on the rear of the row house.
