They Installation
This unique project is an art installation for artist Cara Tierney to be displayed inside the Daly Street enterance of the Ottawa Art Gallery, for 2 years.
Creating both traction and movement - similarly, the recent redeployment of the pronoun they, in the English language, gives linguistic traction to non-bionary gender identities, enabling social momentum. On such a scale, this installation is an expression of the undeniability of gender as a distinctly non-bionary system. At once singular and plural, 'they' contains the singular and the collective, calling us to reconsider our relationships to language, ourselves and consequently to each other.
