Tin Cup - Boulder, CO
The Tin Cup Project was a rustic-contemporary style interior renovation. The project entailed a long-distance collaboration with our client who lived in New York at the time. She wanted a smarter floorplan while also getting rid of the heavy dated brick fireplaces and making the stairs safer.
To eliminate a step down, we raised the floor in the living room to be flush with the surrounding floor so that it would flow from one area all the way through the house.
We wrapped the steps in oak with an anti-slip finish and added cable railings. An industrial whisk was transformed into a hanging light in the stairwell which created a unique patterned effect.
The kitchen retained its original layout, but new cabinets, lighting, countertops and appliances were installed. The quartz buffet countertop and stovetop backsplash have a leathered finish which provides a very natural feel.
The front closet was transformed into a lighted art display on one side and a coat closet with a barn door on the other. The fireplaces were refaced in natural stone. We brought a 110-year-old chestnut beam from an old barn on the East Coast to use for both the fireplace mantel and the master bath sink shelf.
All interior doors and trim were custom built. Some of the interior doors have translucent glass for privacy and light transfer. New energy-efficient Milgard windows allowed views to the outside. New oak flooring completed the look and made the house feel like a new home.
