Tracina Kitchen, Oakville ON

An old exterior wall separated the small kitchen from the existing addition which was cold and disconnected. The layout was choppy and the only access to the addition was through the kitchen and laundry room corridor. The client wanted to warm up the addition and make the spaces more cohesive and open for entertaining.

Removing the old exterior wall and chimney allowed us to connect the rooms. Reinsulating the addition and trading an old unused fireplace for a new linear fireplace made the space feel instantly warmer and created a new focal point. Removing the flat ceiling and maximizing the true vaulted ceiling height of the addition made it feel more like a show space than an afterthought. Creating a new space for the laundry room in an unused portion of the garage meant we were able to increase the footprint of the kitchen to make it more functional.

Creating contrast with cabinets in a Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace & Smoke Gray made the space feel bright and inviting. Hardware, fixtures and a Brizo Litze faucet in brushed brass added warmth to the space while a patterned tile backsplash added character. Carrying new Cambria Quartz ‘Swanbridge’ countertops in front of the bay window still allows light to pass through and let’s the homeowners enjoy their meals with a view.

The new spaces are warm, connected and cohesive.
