The existing house stood on a rare double-wide plot and included another rarity for San Franciso: a vast rear yard. The design takes advantage of this outdoor space by bringing the inside out through the use of open volumes and metal trellises. The interior is fully remodeled to make more sense of the spaces. The primary addition is a pavilion in the rear yard that is to be the main gathering space for the client.
