Located on Carmel Point in Carmel-by-the-Sea on Valley View Avenue, this large remodel project was started in 2011 and completed in 2013. This beautiful two-story, 4,300 square foot home has been completely redesigned from the inside out. The original sprawling ranch style home was built in 1936 and faces Carmel Point. Local Architect Jon S. Erlandson redesigned the home to include a new two-car garage, increased the size of the home by an additional 600 square feet, redesigned the Entry porch and walkway, and two new redwood decks.
Other major renovations to the home were opening up separation walls between the kitchen and adjoining living and dining rooms, vaulting of ceilings, all new doors & windows, the addition of a bathroom, new stucco siding and window trim on the exterior, and all new landscaping. The interior is traditional in style with warm woods & neutral colors, solid wood windows and doors, stainless steel appliances, wood recessed panel cabinets with granite slab countertops, and new hardwood flooring.

Exterior Side Elevation
The Entry porch was completely redone adding large columns with Carmel stone veneer, decorative lighting, and exposed beams.
Exterior Entry
New wood double French doors open out onto the new redwood deck of the Dining Room. The exterior of the doors is painted dark green and the interior was stained to match the wood cabinetry throughout the home.

Originally, there was no access to the lower level from the Entry level. Installing a new stairwell solved the problem. We also vaulted the ceiling and added wooden beams.

Multiple separation walls were removed to connect the Kitchen, Living, and Dining Rooms. We also vaulted the ceiling, added wooden beams, and skylights.
Kitchen, Living & Dining Rooms
The Living room was fully renovated with new hardwood flooring, wood windows, and ceiling beams, as well as a new natural stone fireplace with built-in cabinets on either side.

Vaulting the ceiling and installing recessed cans provides a bright and welcoming room.

The Kitchen features a large center island with plenty of seating. It was painted a dark brown pulling in the darker tones of the surrounding granite countertops and tile accents.
Valley View Avenue
Keeping with the traditional vibes and neutral tones, the kitchen cabinets have recessed panels with subtle detailing. The large double casement windows above the sink really open the space and give you a great view.

The Kitchen features stainless steel appliances, a natural stone tile backsplash with a custom accent piece above the range, and warm Madura gold granite countertops.

In the Master Bedroom, we added a private redwood deck, vaulted the ceiling, and added new double French doors.

Lots of custom tile accents in the Master Bath, all carrying the warm neutral tones seen throughout the home.

The Master Bath features a large vanity with two under-mount sinks, a Madura gold granite countertop, and detailed tile backsplash.

The Master Bath also features a large open tiled alcove shower and drop-in soaking tub.

The third full Guest Bath channels the same warm vibes as the rest of the home with wood cabinets, gold granite countertop and brushed nickel fixtures and hardware.

Following the warm wood finishes of the rest of the home, this Guest Bath features a double sink stained wood vanity with a stone & glass mosaic backsplash.

The forth Guest Bath is located on the lower level and differs from the rest of the home featuring more modern tile choices in cooler coastal tones versus the warmer traditional tones.
