Crowley Cottrell

Vasthu Shastra Residence

The Indian design principles of Vasthu Shastra inspired the design for this landscape. In Vasthu Shastra, the home is divided into quadrants, which correspond to the four elements: earth, fire, air and water. Each element relates to specific colors, shapes, textures, and types of activities. Crowley Cottrell and LDa Architecture worked closely with the clients to translate these principles into a cohesive design for this New England house and landscape. Crowley Cottrell's design uses planting, walls, terraces, and earthwork to create a distinct character for each quadrant.
