This Venice Beach House recently received two national design awards: a SARA National Honor Award as part of SARA's (Society of American Registered Architects) National Design Awards Program and an Award of Merit from the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (Gold Nugget Award). This residence is intended to create a spacious, open living environment on a small but prominent corner lot, and a timeless architectural addition to the architecturally eclectic beach community of Venice, California. The open loft-like interior connects to a private yard through large sliding glass doors and embraces the informal indoor-outdoor lifestyle enjoyed by Venice Beach residents. A limited palette of materials articulates the exterior including cedar siding, corrugated metal and integrally colored plaster. The double height volume of the entry and dining areas is the spatial focus of the interiors, which are similarly articulated with a limited palette of materials. Outdoor entertainment and lounge options are extended by a large rooftop deck affording views to the surrounding beach community.
