Victorian House Child's Bed

This bed was designed with three objectives:
1) create a unique and compelling space for a young girl's bedroom
2) build the bed with eco-friendly material that will not give off indoor air pollution (no VOCs or formaldehyde off gassing)
3) include storage space in the bed

The bed was constructed to be modular for easy setup. The material used was PureBond plywood (formaldehyde free), pine v-groove panelling, cedar porch floor, maple drawers, and pine trim. The finish is Benjamin Moore Natura paint (no VOC).

This one-of-a-kind girl's bed was designed with Victorian flair. The porch with custom made gingerbread were built to scale of a traditional Victorian home.

The shutters on this child's bed were custom made to match the existing design elements in the bedroom. The circles and oval cutouts allow the pink walls to show through and provide some texture.

The gingerbread on this porch was designed to scale of this child's bed. The material is solid pine and was hand crafted in our custom woodworking shop.

The back inside wall of this bed was made of v-groove wainscoting. The customer chose to have it painted in alternating stripes of pink and white.

The cedar deck on the child's bed porch adds additional character and some natural details to this unique project. The porch includes two under bed storage drawers to make the best use of space in the customer's bedroom.

The ceiling of this custom bed shows the exposed rafters and panelling. The ceiling and rafters were painted white to match the interior walls, giving it a cottage feel.

The back portion of the roof for this Victorian style bed is open, to allow air flow through an open ceiling. The exposed rafters are painted white to match the interior finish. The back wall has v-groove pine panelling that is painted with pink and white stripes.

The 3 windows on this child's bed are finished with decorative white window sills. The sills and supports are made of solid pine, painted with an eco-friendly paint from Benjamin Moore.

The porch roof on the bed ads character and depth to the piece. The pillars are complemented by hand-made gingerbread that is in scale with the structure.
