Vineyard Estate

Inspired by our Modern European work, the clients envisioned a home that would also incorporate the relaxed character of a California Ranch. The property itself introduced an unusual constraint, with the most immediate views oriented toward the street rather than the backyard.
To reshape that experience, a stone landscape wall was designed along the front of the home. Beyond serving as a strong architectural base, it helps guide views outward to a tranquil pond, shifting focus away from nearby traffic and parked cars. This feature also establishes a sense of enclosure, creating a private outdoor living zone that feels connected to nature while subtly buffering adjacent homes.
The clients’ significant art collection played a central role in the planning process. Dedicated display areas were integrated throughout the home, including the entry sequence, theater, gallery-style hallway, great room, and dining area. A warm, earth-driven material palette provides continuity throughout, while varied ceiling treatments introduce contrast—ranging from richly painted coffered ceilings to soaring vaulted spaces with exposed wood beams that highlight the clients’ appreciation for craftsmanship.
Within the kitchen, a lowered ceiling accented by parallel wood beams creates a more intimate atmosphere. This sense of compression gradually opens into the expansive great room, reinforcing a natural progression from everyday living to entertaining. A double-sided stone fireplace defines the boundary between the dining and living areas while maintaining a visual and functional connection. Both spaces engage directly with the front courtyard, and a fully retractable bi-fold door between the dining room and covered porch allows for a seamless indoor-outdoor transition.
