Vintage Baths

A 1920’s estate house in the country was due for an update, but the clients wanted everything to feel that it had always been there. We researched vintage baths, English cabinetry, lighting, how tile was used in fine old homes. A delightful assignment!

A small guest bath on the upper floor was fitted out in soft gray and white, with polished chrome fixtures. The slender open washstand, the wall tiles in gray and white are period appropriate. The marble floor mosaic, as delicate as a baby’s quilt, was just the right scale for this tiny room.

The chair rail and tile border wrap around into the shower. This bath was meant to look like it has always been there in this antique house. Restraint and simplicity prevail.

An open washstand for two in the vintage style, with curved backsplash and “dish in” recess on the countertop edges – all custom designed. The Crema Delicato marble has delicate notes of bronze to correspond to the Calacotta Gold floor. Polished nickel legs are below, with polished nickel faucets...

The twin tall cabinets echo the look of white apothecary cabinets, a 1920’s feel. They contain drawers, medicine cabinets and outlets for modern needs. The unique curved base and cap molding are modeled on 19th C English cabinetry.

This classic French “boat” tub with silvery cast iron exterior is sited under a delicate Chinoiserie mosaic. The mosaic is custom, in white Thassos marble and honey onyx tiles. The back wall is Thassos tiles, with Calacotta Gold flooring.

A tiny powder room on the main floor deserved to be dressed up. A vintage style open washstand is fitted with unlacquered brass fixtures and legs.
