For this home's rail, we used four hand-carved fittings that we made from 1/8" walnut sheets glued together into a block, then bent to the curvature of the stairs and hand-carved to match handrail profile. Each solid tread was also custom built to account for the curvature of the structural stairs as well as the wall. The wall stringer in stage three was also made using 1/8" sheets of walnut to a thickness of 2", then bent and mitered to correspond with the pitch changes.
