Wall Rebuild
These are two walls I built about 20 years back. Originally built with all Onondaga outcropping limestone, these new walls have a more select mixture of micritic limestone, Maine granite, smaller split pieces of Belgian Block(acquired at Home Depot of all places!) and even a bit of bluestone :)
My time over the years spent working in New England has undoubtedly changed my style and what appears to be drystone work is not. The two perpendicular pieces of Maine granite are set in concrete, base stones are set on a bed of crushed stone, concrete poured behind those stones and most of the rest of the stones are backed with type S mortar. Underneath all of that is a D.O.T. grade geotextile fabric and the walls are backfilled with crushed stone. Also, I might add, this could not be accomplished without an excavator with thumb and a trusty demo saw.
These will be more critter proof, me thinks :)
