Wallingford Remodel

Full Scale Remodel in Wallingford, Seattle.

Full cedar privacy fence surrounding property, with two access gates and one double swinging driveway gate. Irrigation system installation front and back. Complete landscaping remodel.

Key landscaping feature was a "S" curved radius wall. The pictures show the process of construction and the key component it fills in the landscaping design. The curve brings a sense of spontaneousness and feels organic. Building it was a challenge primarily because I had to manufacture the whalers in which to bend the kerfed plywood against. Whalers were set to a 6' radius 's' curve.

Plywood was 3/4" MDO, one sided. I kerfed the back at about 5/8" depth every 4". This allowed the plywood to bend against the whalers. I wood screwed the plywood into the whalers while clamping it in advance to slowly get the gentle curve I was looking for.

Final forms set without snap ties. Whalers were bolted to the footer with 4" concrete screws. Small stud walls were built above and below the whalers so as to hold the forms while the concrete set.

Artificial turf was laid last. DreamTurf supplied the turf and we set it. Total turf perimeter surrounded by synthetic 5/4" decking on edge and set with 2"x2" ground stakes. Turf perimeter screwed to this continuous border so as to minimize future peeling.
