Wateree Cottage Get-Away

In addition to my design work, I am also a Realtor. One of the areas I specialize in is Lake Wateree - or as the locals call it, "The Riv-ah." While searching for properties for clients, I came across this house and immediately called my husband. We bought it to celebrate our Second Anniversary. It is on a winding, mountain-like road, serene and peaceful -- just like the cove in which it sits. It's a lovely getaway.

There were three doors opening into a small area. We used rough-hewn Georgia Pine to build a barn door with a "V" for "Vogt".

Master Retreat. I used a vintage headboard (that my husband had deemed too girly for our primary residence) to set the tone for this sweet room with a view of the lake.

At the foot of the bed is a vintage dresser with an antique French plate rack that is used to display a rotating collection of artwork.

The dining space showcases an early Church pew, a French-style drawleaf table and inexpensive iron and wood chairs. To the right, the compact kitchen and to the left, the master bath and bedrooms.

In addition to the barn door, we used rough-hewn Georgia Pine to wrap the beam and posts and finished it off with a weathered grey stain. The "door as art" is a 17th century French door. In its former life, the entertainment center served as a French storepiece.

The Target mail-order curtains were dressed up with a showy curtain rod and rings. The walls are Sherwin-Williams Origami White. The trim is Sherwin-Williams Silverplate. And the ceilings are Sherwin-Williams Copen Blue at 50% strength.

Looking into the main room and out to the cove. The goal was to create a peaceful retreat anchored with comfortable furnishings and treasured family heirlooms.

Not all closet doors are the same! These were found on the Home Depot website and work perfectly with the cottage style. Painted in Sherwin-Williams SilverPlate.

To keep things easy to maintain, we used a Pergo flooring and indoor-outdoor carpet.
