Wayfaring Point 1
This 6,114 heated sqft house built by SHELTER Custom-Built Living and designed by Boyd Architects is articulated as 3 parallel gabled structures that descend in size towards the rear of the property. The intent of this 5 bedroom, 7.5 bath home was to resist a monolithic reading and to instead create a collection of distinct volumes that give the illusion of being produced over time. Both the massing and detailing reflect a contemporary interpretation of the new vernacular being developed in Charleston. The rigorously ordered facades are a nod to the Georgian proportions and symmetry that dominate the area, while the pared back detailing and reduction of ornament look represent an emerging taste for the modern.
