WH20 is a 9-unit project on a residential street near the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd and Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood, CA. Responding to the scale of the neighborhood, the building is divided into two volumes. The lobby and main vertical circulation are located in the center of the project connecting the two masses. A large garden for the residents is located at the rear of the property screened by lush vegetation. The play between solid and void varies on each floor resulting in a language of shifting volumes. The project echoes architectural moves found in contextual buildings from past decades, like the use of accent colors and vertical fins to articulate different parts of the façade.
