Whitten House
During 1816 unusual weather cased New England Farmers with killing frosts and snowfall throughout the summer months decimating the staple crops of vegetables, corn, wheat and hay. In Ashland, NH farmer Reuben Whitten used southern slopes of India Hill to full advantage and succeeded when his neighbors has not-he managed a harvest of wheat. During the unusual summer Reuben and his compassionate family sharing the harvest with the community to get through the winter.
