Nicole, I'm afraid you were misinformed. Metallic glazes are fired at a extremely high temperature so heat will not effect the tile. Let us know if you have any questions and I'm sorry about the information you received.

The architect answered this question before. Here's what they said:

Installing the same tile throughout various spaces is unimaginative and boring.

There are so many tiles out there - different glazes, textures & shapes, and far more sizes than 3x6. There are also unlimited ways to install tile - it doesn't all have to be a simple horizontal running bond.

Have a look here to see what I mean - and try to imagine something more interesting for your own spaces.

Glass is heat resistant. It's the adhesive that's used to install the tile that needs to be able to tolerate the heat. We don't want a tile falling off into the sauce pot!
